Last year, the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS) and the International Office of the University of Lagos organized a three-minute thesis competition to celebrate the Nelson Mandela week. One of the winners from the competition was Bolatito Kolawole, a PhD student at the IADS. As her prize, Bolatito was rewarded with a two-week academic trip to Aston University, where she presented her work titled “Beyond Elitist Parents and Lazy Children: Language Shift among the Yoruba ‘Educated Elite’ in Lagos State”.
