The entire staff of the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies and the Lagos African Cluster Centre, University of Lagos, mourn the passing of Hon. Adekunle Ali, a great historian who passed on April 8th, 2023, at the age of 89. Late Adekunle Ali, an associate of the Institute, was always ready to share his knowledge of Lagos history. He was one of the panelists at the Lagos: Ownership and Identities Workshop, where he extensively shared his insight into the ownership and identity debate of Lagos.
Adekunle Alli’s tremendous contributions to preserving Lagos State’s history left an indelible impression that will forever be etched in our hearts. His commitment to unearthing forgotten stories of the city helped us shape our future. We will always remember his unwavering dedication to chronicling Lagos State’s diverse cultures, traditions, and people.
As we pay tribute to the life and work of such an exceptional historian, we remain grateful for the time we shared with him. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
