IADS CELEBRATES TRADITIONAL MEDICINE DAY

The Theme of the Traditional Medicine day and Exhibition this year is – “Traditional Medicine: Research and Development” organized by the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS) in collaboration with the African Centre of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science (ACEDHARS), University of Lagos.

The keynote speaker, Mr. Babatunde Adele, Registrar, Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board was duly represented by Mr. Hakeem Bello Adediran who discussed the critical component of research desires, past research initiatives, and future Research and Development Agenda of the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board. He explained that Traditional medicine systems have been the backbone of healthcare in Africa for centuries and that in Lagos state, this heritage is not merely a relic of the past; it is a living, breathing practice that continues to serve the communities effectively.

The most interesting event of this year’s Traditional medicine day is the opening of the Traditional Sauna on August 28, 2024. The Sauna is located behind the St.Thomas More Catholic Church at the University of Lagos. The plants used are deliberately planted behind the GL clinic within the Sauna area to ensure consistency and reliability, improved efficacy and safety, enhanced quality control, reduced contamination risk and better regulatory compliance.

The Traditional Sauna/Spa has commenced operation on Wednesday, 28th August, 2024.
