A 3-DAY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Photovoice is a community qualitative research method which asks community members to document their experiences using photos and narratives which are then translated into knowledge that can be used to spark social change.

The workshop was led by Kamnelechukwu Obasi & Damilola Bankole.
Project members include: Carla Coburger and Marie Tsogo, BIGSAS Ph.D. students, University of Bayreuth.
Among the participants is Bolatito Kolawole, IADS Ph.D. Student, University of Lagos.

In this 3-day workshop community artists and activists in the Oworonshoki area in Lagos, Nigeria were invited to take pictures that spoke to the subject of Money without actually taking pictures of paper money or currency.

On the first day, participants learned about the photovoice method and discussed various meanings and values attached to money in society and in their personal lives. The second day consisted of a technical photography training and the final day consisted of fieldwork in the community where participants could take additional pictures using knowledge from the workshop. The workshop empowered community Artists to explore the theme of Money through photography and narratives.
