THE WINNER OF RAHAMON BELLO AWARD FOR THE BEST PH.D. THESIS IS…

The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, University of Lagos announced the winner of Rahamon Bello award for the best Ph.D. thesis in African Studies today, November 30, 2023.

Dr. Muhammad Ribadu Ayuba, a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria emerged the winner this year. The award winning thesis entitled: “The Social Context of Gentrification in Lagos State, Nigeria was submitted to the Department of Sociology, University of Ibadan in January 2023. Congratulations to Dr. Ayuba and his supervisor Dr. O. Akanle, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology University of Ibadan.

Dr. Oluwaseyi Omowunmi Popogbe, a lecturer at Crawford University, Ogun State came second position. Her thesis “Social Exclusion and Poverty in Selected Coastal Slum Areas in Lagos State, Nigeria, a Ph.D. obtained in December 2022 from the Department of Economics, University of Lagos.

The third position goes to Dr. Charles Terseer Akwen of the Department of English, University of Lagos. His Thesis is titled ” Notions of Identity in the Literary Creativity of Odia Ofeimun and Yang Mu.

We congratulate the winners of this prestigious award. The presentation of award has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
