2026 BLACK HISTORY MONTH

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, University of Lagos, marked the annual Black History month with an exciting and educational event that brought together young minds from ten (10) different secondary schools in Lagos, Nigeria. The quiz competition centered on Black history, culture, and global impact.

The event keynote speaker, Professor David Aworawo of the Department of History and Strategic Studies, University of Lagos, delivered a thought-provoking lecture entitled “A Century of African Self-Representation: Nigeria in Globalization of Building History” showcasing its existence for the past one hundred years.

MARYLAND COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL

After a thrilling series of three (3) rounds, Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School emerged as the overall winner of the Black History Month 2026 Quiz Competition. We proudly congratulate Ekemini Wellington and Tofunmi Elizabeth Ojo for their outstanding performance.

Igbobi College emerged second position, participants are: Oluwakayomide Apalowo and Tamilore Enitan while Onike Girls Junior High School came third position, representatives are: Oyindamola Ligali and Sofiat Nurudeen. We congratulate the First and Second runner-ups.

We also applaud the remaining seven (7) participating schools for their effort:

Grace Schools, Leeland Schools, International School Lagos (ISL), Federal Government College (FGC) Ijanikin, Queens College Lagos, Holy Child College and Dansol High School, Ogba, Lagos.
