2025 LAGOS FILM COLLOQUIUM

The Lagos conference concluded successfully on Saturday, September 27, 2025 with a film colloquium themed “Exploring Lagos from the Screen.” at the University of Lagos’ Love Garden. The finale featured screenings and discussions of three films: Two documentaries – “Journey of an African Colony” and “Where Will Normal People Sleep Tonight?”, followed by the fiction feature “Gidi Blues”. It was a vibrant day of cinema and dialogue, where films became windows into Lagos’ soul and panelists helped connect those stories to real-life issues.

The event opened with “Where Will Normal People Sleep Tonight?”. It drew the audience into the housing struggles of ordinary Lagosians through the eyes of Amina, a slum dweller.

Panelists: Joy Oyiza Obadoba, Opeyemi Ogunlami, and Alausa Ezekie, moderated by Deji Akinpelu, explored inclusive housing as one of the City’s most pressing challenges.

The second film, “Gidi Blues”, a romance set in Lagos’ lively streets. After the screening, Femi Odugemi, ’Kayode Eesuola, Frank Konwea, and Oluwatoyin Olokodana-James guided by moderator Aderonke Oshinjobi discussed how Nollywood reflects Lagos’ history and everyday urban life.

The final screening, “Journey of an African Colony”, narrated by Olasupo Shasore, revisited Nigeria’s colonial past.

Panelists: Friday Aworawo,  Kayode Eesuola, Oluwatoyin Mbachu, Jahmam Anikulapo. The panelists engaged in a thoughtful conversation on History, African Culture and Heritage.
