US Navy Band 'The Topsides' to visit IADS on the 20th of March 2019

The IADS in conjunction with the US Consulate in Lagos, and the rest of the UNILAG community look forward to the visit of the US Navy Band 'The Topsides' in 8 days time.

The Topsides are mainly known for their unmistakable musical style "New Orleans", which has delighted audiences from countries around the world. Its members are Duke Stuble (trombone), Jacob Christian (saxophone), Jonah David (drums), Lee Koelz (trumpet), Jordan Fredrick (trumpet) and Benjamin Hood (tube).

The band has been known to play well-known songs such as "I want you back”, "Killing me Softly”, "Afrikaan Beat”, "Despacito”, "Cissy Strut”, "Wonderful world”, "Soul Makossa”, "Wanna be starting something” and "Waka waka.”

They have promised to treat us all to a great performance so please ensure that date is freed up in your diaries!

We at the IADS would like to thank everyone, especially the US consulate in Lagos as well as students and staff of the University of Lagos, who made our Black History Month celebrations over the past couple of weeks a success. Thank you all, and hope to see you all again next year for a bigger and better celebration of our Black African heritage.

Our celebration continues today. You will have the opportunity of being treated to African music from different Cultures. There will also be fashion parade showcasing several African nationalities. We will be showing another film "12 Years a Slave". Time is 10am. Of course there will be Item 7. Please attend.

We are about to begin our celebrations, we hope to see as many of you as possible today at the JP Clark Centre, UNILAG for the 2019 IADS Black History Month festivities.
